About Us

Mental Health Support in South Australia Since 1983

Skylight Mental Health has been walking alongside South Australians for over 40 years. Our journey began in 1983 as the Schizophrenia Fellowship of South Australia, with a mission to support individuals living with serious mental illness.

In 2002, we evolved into the Mental Illness Fellowship of SA to better reflect the needs of a growing community. By 2006, we had joined forces with the Mood Disorders Association of SA. Finally, in 2017, we embraced a new identity — Skylight Mental Health — reflecting a broader, more inclusive vision of recovery and wellbeing.

Today, Skylight is proud to be a leading NDIS mental health provider in South Australia. Our lived experience, not-for-profit foundation, and trauma-informed approach shape everything we do.

Empowering Mental Health Recovery Through Human Connection

Skylight Mental Health is built on values that reflect our belief in each person’s potential:

Understanding

Discovery through shared learning

Connection

Humanity, lived experience, and importance of what happens between people

Optimism

The hope and belief in possibility and the potential of each person

Courage

Resilience, commitment and a strength of spirit

These values guide our work across all services — from NDIS support workers and group programs to carer support and community education.

Skylight Mental Health Today – See Mental Health Differently

We believe mental health challenges should never define someone. At Skylight, we centre lived experience, offering peer-led mental health programs, NDIS individual support, and community-based services that promote wellbeing, connection, and recovery.

Our goals are simple but powerful:

  • Reduce stigma and discrimination around mental health conditions

  • Advocate for inclusive, person-centred mental health policies

  • Empower people through informed NDIS choice and control

Whether through one-on-one support, group activities, or carer resources, Skylight is committed to challenging outdated perceptions of mental health and building a stronger, more understanding community across South Australia.
