Kate Thiele
Chair
Kate Thiele FAICD, MBA, Dip App SC
Kate is a governance, not for profit and business leader. With a background in health, the corporate sector and with two of Australia’s leading NFPs, she is passionate about purpose, people and performance. In 2015 Kate was awarded Telstra SA Business Woman of the Year and was recognised as the national ‘For Purpose and Social Enterprise’ award recipient. Within her own business, Kate supports organisations to expand their capability and capacity. “It is an honour to join the Skylight community and I look forward to expanding services for participants, their families and carers.”
Adam McCallum
Vice Chair
Adam has 20 years’ experience in senior management and project management with expertise across numerous disciplines including business improvement, stakeholder management, quality and risk control, relationship building, personnel and budget management. He is a strong advocate for promoting acceptance of mental illness and supporting people who struggle with it day in and day out. “Having been exposed to those challenged by mental illness, I understand the importance of the work and support that Skylight offers, and it is an honour to be a member of the Skylight board”
Marc Sodomka
Chair of Finance Audit and Risk Committee
Marc is a FCPA qualified accountant with over 23 years of experience in providing effective oversight and leadership for corporate services and commercial divisions. His areas of expertise include Financial Management, Information Technology, Information Systems, Procurement, Asset Management, and Risk Management. As a strategic leader, he possesses strong business and commercial acumen, complemented by well-developed skills in budgeting, forecasting, and reporting. Marc is adept at leading, developing, and executing strategic initiatives that enable successful organizational performance. “I believe in working with people to foster innovation and collaboration and am a sound communicator with a high level of analytical skills and expert knowledge of financial management processes.” Marc was appointed to the Board to fill a casual vacancy in 2023. He has since enjoyed working with the Board and the Management Team, particularly refining the Skylight budget. He looks forward to providing further support in these processes.
Vilma Attanasio
Board Member
Vilma is an experienced senior manager and non-executive director, with extensive experience in the financial services sector, including insurance. Her expertise lies in leadership, finance, distribution, strategy, and stakeholder management. Her areas of proficiency extend to change management and business transformation, leadership, persuading and influencing, business development, and strategic thinking and innovation. Vilma is deeply passionate about the benefits and importance of respect, diversity and inclusion in the workplace and recognizes the advantages of a culturally diverse environment. “I believe in building authentic, trusted relationships to navigate challenging environments, and I enjoy supporting and developing people to achieve their own success.” Vilma was appointed to the Board to fill a casual vacancy. She eagerly looks forward to working more closely with the Skylight Mental Health Board and Management team.
Pete Madsen
Board Member
Pete is Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors with a passion for the profit-for-purpose sector; this is demonstrated through his previous Board roles with scosa, MS Society of SA/NT and Kudos Services. Additionally, he has a deep understanding of the NDIS, initially gained during his tenure as Board Chair and interim CEO in a disability organisation during the transition to NDIS. Pete is also an experienced executive who has held senior leadership roles in commercial, finance, strategy, risk, governance, business improvement and project management in global and national organisations across a diverse range of sectors. Notably, in his current General Manager role within a member organisation, he is working with mental health providers to implement a service offering that will provide value to members. “My time on the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee with Skylight has confirmed the excellent work the organisation undertakes within the community, together with how desperately these services are needed. I am honoured to be considered for a Board position with Skylight and I am excited to lend my expertise and experience in support of Skylight continuing and enhancing this vital work.”
Miriam Whitford
Board Member
Miriam Whitford is a strategic leader with extensive global and national experience in general management, leadership, strategy creation, innovation programs, end-to-end business planning, governance, stakeholder engagement, e-commerce and operational analysis. Her business experience includes high profile national and international top tier FMCG companies, professional services, SME, government, industry bodies, education, NFP and Scale Up.
Jed Maher
Board Member
Jed is a leader in the financial services industry, specialising in governance, change initiatives, risk and compliance systems, advisory services, and project management. He has a proven ability to enhance stakeholder collaboration to deliver strategic initiatives that drive effective risk and compliance management. With significant achievements in risk management, Jed excels at fostering risk-aware cultures and offering governance expertise in complex regulatory environments, supporting organisations in achieving both operational success and long-term strategic goals.
Carolyn McKay
Board Member
Carolyn is an experienced Social Worker Leader and Non-Executive director with extensive experience in the NGO sector including within Mental Health and Disability support organisations. Carolyn’s skills include strategy, business, risk and people management. Carolyn has completed the AICD company Directors Course. She has a strong sense of social justice and is passionate about making a difference in the community. She is excited about joining the Skylight Board and supporting the organisation to continue to make a positive difference in the lives of the people we support and their families and carers.
