What is Distress Brief Support?

Distress Brief Support (DBS) is a community-based service for adults experiencing stress or distress. Our Lived Experience Peer Workers listen without judgement, help you make a simple plan for the next steps, and, if you choose, connect you with other supports in your local community.

DBS has two parts:

Community Engagement Points
friendly drop-in touchpoints across Adelaide’s north (for example community centres, libraries, sporting clubs) where you can have a chat and be offered support.

Short-term Support Team
up to 3 weeks of focused, practical support to help you stabilise, problem-solve and link with the right services.

FAQ's

How quickly can I speak to someone?

Often on the same day at a community engagement point, or within 1–2 business days by phone or email.

Can I use DBS more than once?

Yes. You can reconnect if you need further brief support in future.

Is this a crisis service?

DBS is not an emergency service. If you need urgent help, call 000. For after-hours mental health support, contact LETSS 1800 013 755 or Lifeline 13 11 14.

Will you tell anyone I have contacted you?

Not unless you ask us to, or there is a serious risk of harm.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can contact us directly.
