Our Story.

At Skylight, we are inspired by the resilience of the human spirit and the potential in all of us to live well. Through individual support, group activities, respite and community education, we create environments of understanding, connection, optimism and courage. We assist people to empower themselves through their journey of recovery. This is a journey we share; working alongside them, their friends and family, and their carers.

Our History.

Our story, begun in 1983, as the Schizophrenia Fellowship of South Australia. 19 years later we became the Mental Illness Fellowship of South Australia, to better reflect our scope and the needs of South Australians living with mental illness. In 2006, we merged with the Mood Disorders Association of South Australia – and then, in July of 2017, we introduced a new name for a new era – Skylight Mental Health.

Skylight Today.

At Skylight, we firmly believe that mental health should not define someone. We value lived experience and peer-led programs, using them to enhance well-being and strengthen resilience.

We challenge the broader community to see mental health differently.

Our goals are to:

  • reduce discrimination
  • remove stigma around mental illness

We provide support and information, build community awareness and advocate for improved mental health policies and services.

Our role within the NDIS is essential - to bring choice and control to the people who need it most.
